How to get fired up for your next adventure.

Unknown length - Jan 4, 2008

I made this video as a surprise to my friend and shipped it to him a week before we were set to leave. Footage is from our backpacking trip two years prior. It was a lot of fun to make, and suffice it to say that on this latest trip we took tons of video for a future video. All footage came from a crappy Canon digital camera. Doesn't look great on a TV, but for internet videos it's all you need (not to mention a lot easier to transport). Nearly all digital cameras sold today have a video feature -- use it! Video focuses a lot more on the party/nightlife side of our trip, but we were recent college grads and that material was just easier to translate into a "movie trailer" type production.

Backpacking

3 min - Apr 1, 2008

Backpacking is where it's at! After wandering around Europe for nine months I found that backpackers comprise a culture in and of themselves, this is an idea/lifestyle that Tony and adventurous spirits everywhere should really be exposed to. I'd love to share my knowledge, limited as it may be, with the No Res crew and the world. This is an incredibly underrated way to travel, we're not all stoned hippies with rich parents (I promise you that Tony). If you're interested in exploration in one of its purist forms this is for you. I'm always asked whats been my favorite PLACE that I've visited which I've found to be impossible to answer, this being so i haven't picked a PLACE but decided rather to focus on this idea. I want to show Tony, my friends and family, and all of the No Res fans that traveling isn't only about buildings and landscapes, at its heart its about the people you meet, locals or otherwise, and how these relationships can change your life.

Nike: Men's Air Obsidian Lightweight Hiking Boots OUT OF STOCK

42 sec - Jun 24, 2007

A supportive option for a wide variety of outdoor activities the Nike Air Obsidian trail shoe is a great match for fastpacking day hiking scrambling ferrying a big load even traversing a firm snowlield. Although they look more like a running shoe than a hiking boot people are catching-on to the fact that unless they are prone to twisting their ankles or embarking on a trip that might see bad weather the advantages of trail shoes are numerous. The Nike Air Obsidian hiking shoe features the Nike Trailframe technology in the midsole to offer support protection and torsional rigidity without the weight of high-top leather models. In fact they offer enough support to haul more than your share on a family backpacking trip. With forefoot flex grooves in the All-Trac Trail outsole and forgiving leather and mesh combination upper the Nike Air Obsidian trail shoe feels comfortable the first day you use them without the annoyance of an extended break-in period. The trademark Nike air cushioning is present on this versatile shoe too where an Air-Sole unit is present in the heel to reduce the impact of prolonged descents. Ultimately the lightweight forgiving yet supportive nature of trail shoes such as the Nike Air Obsidian leave your feet feeling less fatigue a key ingredient to going faster and farther not to mention more fully enjoying your experience.
Junipero Serra, Ventana Wilderness, Big Sur, Backpacking

7 min - Dec 14, 2006

Brian Mack. Vince Manning. Snow Camping. Junipero Serra. Los Padres National Forest. Feb. 2005. There's nothing better than going up that mountain right after a major cold storm and seeing the pristine snow, ice sickles, animal tracks, ice growing out of the ground. On winter mornings you can see clearly see the high peaks of the Sierra's to the east (this mountain is roughly at the same latitude as Mt. Whitney). The weather can change rapidly here in the winter. A very important note; melting snow from trees and brush can cause all of your clothes and pack to be soaking wet.

The North Face: Men's Pumori Jacket

1 min - Jun 24, 2007

A great do-it-all fleece piece for any outdoor activity, the Men's Pumori Jacket from The North Face features midweight Polartec 200 Series fleece, making it ideal as a middle layer for skiing and as an outer layer for summer camping. If we had to make a list of indispensable items for year-round outdoor adventures, this Men's Pumori Jacket from The North Face would rank near the top. Some fleece is too thick for summer backpacking, other fleece is too thin for anything except middle layering, but the Pumori is just right with midweight Polartec 200 Series fleece. You can wear it as a middle layer in the winter (it is zip-in compatible and zips into other jackets made by The North Face--just remember to pick the same size) or wear it as outerwear on camping trips. The one thing that the Pumori Jacket doesn't have is the nylon reinforcement panels along the shoulders like the slightly heavier Denali Jackets by The North Face. That means that if you backpack or climb extensively with a pack, you may notice some pilling and wear along abrasion points beneath the straps. Midweight warmth Polartec 200 Series fleece Nylon reinforcement panel along the collar helps reduce pilling Standard (not relaxed) fit layers well beneath shells (and is zip-in compatible with some jackets made by The North Face) Two zippered hand pockets Comfortable elastic bound cuffs hold sleeves in place Hem cinchcord at waist to help seal out cold air TNF logo on upper left chest Weight: 24 oz. (680 g.)
